Impeachment Vote This Week – Go New Hampshire – Make Us Proud!

The deepest core of every American soul holds a painful
shame, an embarrassed humiliation that most today feel
impotent to address.

Our forefathers recognized that there would be times
when the government’s executive and legislative
branches could become so corrupted and unreliable to
protect the Constitution that it would be up to the
people.

So they gave us a special tool, mentioned no less than
six times in our Constitution, to use for a remedy.a
Unfortunately, “the word” spoken today conjures a vast
array of emotional responses with little real
understanding of a constitutional process, historically
grounded, which we seem to fear.

House Resolution 24 is expected to be voted on April 16
by the New Hampshire House Representatives.
This will be an historic vote – the first time a state
legislature will attempt to petition the U.S. Congress to
begin investigations to determine if there is sufficient
cause/evidence to hold our current leaders accountable
as stipulated in Section 603 of the Jefferson Manual, the
official rules of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Thomas Jefferson himself forwarded the evidence for
the first successful federal impeachment in 1803.

OK, there’s “the word.” Hang on – the procedure
doesn’t necessarily lead to impeachment. Recall that
President Richard Nixon ran when the evidence was laid
before the public. It never got to trial by the U.S.
Senate.

Why must we do it now? We must challenge this
administration’s usurpation of power from the people,
from the legislative and judicial branches of
government or else these powers of an imperial
presidency will go forward to succeeding
administrations.

We do not want any future president to have these
illicit powers. We fought a revolution to ensure it.
The time is right now to demand our representatives
follow their oath of office. It is we, the people, who
have vested our power in them to speak for us.
It is the duty of each and every one of us to tell them:
“Start investigations now – for all those who’ve gone
before and on whose shoulders we stand, as an example
for future generations.”

“Our children will grow knowing “we the people of
these United States have the duty to speak out, as a
strong majority for right, when we find ourselves
engulfed in wrongs.”

(For a succinct summary with no hype of why
impeachment is necessary visit this site

If you live in New Hampshire, write or talk to your
legislator.

While it is happening right on our doorstep, I’m
incredulous that most folks never heard of the issue that
was No. 1 on Google and Wikipedia this past weekend.

In the meantime, come to the Capitol Center for the
Arts in Concord on Monday, April 14, at 7 p.m. to hear
Daniel Ellsberg, who released the “Pentagon Papers” to
The New York Times in 1971, former U.S. Attorney
General Ramsey Clark, who served under President
Lyndon B. Johnson, and others talk about this issue.

Impeachment is not about President Bush and Vice
President Dick Cheney. It is about the presidency. It is
about the future and the Constitution. It rises above
partisan politics and so should – nay, must – we if we are
to keep our Republic.

Urgent Impeacment Action Alert….

Reposted from before.  This bill needs to be addressed before February 8, 2008

From David Swanson:

Impeachment

I learned something priceless and powerful today. Members of The Senate Rules Committee keeps lists of requests to “pull” bills. That means that the bills are given consideration by Rules Committee before being sent to a vote by the entire Senate. FOLKS, THEY MAKE SPREAD SHEETS OF CALLS AND EMAILS TO “PULL” BILLS! This direct request to “pull SJM 8016″ is much more powerful than just asking that they ‘support” a bill.

So……

…We need MASSIVE PUBLIC PRESSURE to “PULL” SJM 8016 IN THE SENATE RULES COMMITTEE.

SJM 8016, Senator Oemig’s bill to impeach, can go to a floor vote in the Senate AFTER IT GETS “PULLED” in Rules Committee.

PLEASE HELP MOVE SJM 8016 THROUGH RULES COMMITTEE BY requesting that SENATORS “PULL” SJM 8016.

Call  1-800-562-6000 M-F 830am-430pm Pacific time.  A real live staff person will take the msg and get it to the Senator you want.  See the names of the senators below.PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY WRITE YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS ON THE “REQUEST TO PULL” LIST, if you are emailing.  THIS ACTION MUST BE TAKEN BY FEBRUARY 8, 2008 or the bill dies.

Please thank Lisa Brown for her work on domestic partnerships last year and urge her to “PULL SJM 8016.”

Also, please thank the five cosponsors of SJM 8016, (marked***) that serve on Rules Committee for their continued support of SJM 8016. Ask the aide to put your name on the”REQUEST TO PULL SJM 8016″ list, and to move the bill to a floor vote.

Each member of the Rules Committee represents all of us, so kindly insist that they take your message, name and address.

Dick Cheney’s daughter is backing Mitt Romney

Dick Cheney, the guy we’re trying to impeach for his unsavory behavior in this administration, has a daughter that is backing Mitt Romney. Unbelievable. This author’s question is this: Is that supposed to get Romney votes?

Would we consider it an error in judgment on the part if Mitt Romney to consider the support of anyone from the Cheney family, as the American public claws at his heals for impeachment? This author has likely missed this one, but just who is George Bush, or his family, endorsing?

Or perhaps this endorsement thing is an effort to get rid of Mitt Romney?  Did Karl Rove (another questionable character) do this to separate McCain from Cheney-Bush?  Amazing.

Impeachment IS Important!

Start with Dick Cheney! H.Res 333/799 submitted by Kucinich has sponsors, Wexler now pushing the issue:

  • Did Cheney order illegal surveillance?
  • Did Cheney order torture?
  • Did Cheney manipulate intelligence to push the nation into war?
  • Did Cheney unmask a covert agent for political purposes?

Democrats don’t want to focus on impeachment over the current election campaigns. But are they doing us a service by ignoring, possibly, the most egregious acts in defiance of Constitutional principles and our nation’s best interests? CALL YOUR LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES NOW!

From the Real News

In the California 24th District, contact Elton Gallegly. He voted to impeach Clinton for lying, the current issues are whoppers in the history of our nation:

Elton Gallegly is also up for re-election this year. Gallegly on Energy and Oil. On key issues, he’s clearly not doing us any favors (environment, health care, net neutrality, civil rights, employment, education, etc.) . On impeachment, he’s done nothing, other than consistently vote in line with the Bush-Cheney bidding.

Nancy Pelosi Ignores “March In My Name” Marcher John Nirenberg

After walking 500 miles to deliver signatures calling to put impeachment back on the table, John Nirenberg is ignored by Nancy Pelosi. It is notable that she didn’t even find it necessary to act as an appropriate elected official in meeting with Mr. Nirenberg for 10 minutes. Instead her office had a legislative assistant meet with Mr. Nirenberg. Just how does Ms. Pelosi feel her time is too valuable to deny a meeting of such crucial importance to most American citizens?

Elton Gallegly Voted To Impeach Clinton for Oral Sex But Remains Silent About Bush and Cheney

It’s beyond belief and a clear indication of what our local elected official, Elton Gallegly (24th Dist, CA), finds important.

Mr. Gallegly took his all too important time in Congress to step into the minutia of someone’s personal affairs that have nothing to do with our nation, the sexual affairs of Bill Clinton. Do we really find this crucial to our national interests?

On the other hand, while the United States was led into an illegal war based on lies, and we have heard nothing but lies and loss of personal liberties since the beginning of the Bush Administration, Mr. Gallegly does NOTHING.

Are presidential sexual matters the only topic that calls Gallegly to act on impeachment? Does adherence to the Constitution and the nation we leave to our children take a back seat to the president’s sexual matters?

During the time of Clinton impeachment hearings, Mr. Gallegly made the following remarks:

THE IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS
Dec. 10 Opening Statements: Elton Gallegly (R-Calif.)

“It has been argued that we should not impeach President Clinton because we should not hobble future presidents with the possibility they could be impeached for the same thing. Mr. Lowell, the Democrat counsel, this morning stated we should not impeach to punish, but rather to preserve the public trust. Future presidents should fear impeachment for lying under oath. Impeaching a president for lying under oath would do what Mr. Lowell suggests — protect the public trust. Instead of acting presidential and putting the country before his own self-interest, President Clinton chose his own self-interest time and time again. By doing so, he undermined the rule of law and violated his oath of office…

The president, his delegates and my Democrat colleagues argue that even these facts are provable, they do not rise to the level of impeachment. With all due respect, I believe they’re wrong. Lying after swearing before God and country to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is a very serious offense. It is taken very seriously by our judicial system, one of the three equal branches of government in the United States. In this case, President Clinton lies under oath before a federal judge, a grand jury are a direct attack on the constitutional separations of power. On a more basic level, he (sic) lies under oath directly attacks the rule of law.

This is about a president of the United States lying under oath, undermining our legal process and violating his oath of office. It is about violating Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution, which states the president shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed. President Clinton’s actions clearly fall under the heading of high crimes and misdemeanors…

Our legal system, which protects the rights and liberties of all citizens, is dependent on people telling the truth under oath. The president is our chief law enforcement officer and our chief magistrate. When he lies under oath he undermines the integrity of our judicial system and threatens the rights and liberties of every one of us.

Mr. Chairman, I’m not a lawyer — one of the few on this committee — however, everyone that knows me knows I believe in the rule of law — believe the rule of law is fundamental to our society. A society without laws is anarchy. Societies that ignore the laws are condemned to violence and chaos.

The president’s actions have already impacted children in my district. An educator at Moorpark — one of the Moorpark junior high schools called me this week. She said that in the last few months students have lied about bad conduct and tried to excuse themselves with the comment, “Well, the president did it, why can’t I?”

Bold face added.

This author is almost without words in response to the ridiculous nature of the above remarks in light of the 7 years of George Bush and Dick Cheney. An administration Mr. Gallegly appears to whole-heartedly support.

It must remembered that the lies of George Bush and Dick Cheney brought us into an illegal war which has cost America thousands of lost lives (even souls from our own community here in Ventura County), over a million dead Iraqis, and trillions of dollars spent in the waste of this effort, borrowing money from China. This doesn’t even begin to enumerate the countless acts of shredding the ideals of the Constitution.

In addition to this, Mr. Gallegly voted to support the Military Commissions Act, which effectively gives Bush, Cheney, and company retroactive immunity from war crimes. The US agreed to not torture many years ago and we would not want our own soldiers/personnel treated in this way. Here is the shock from CNN during that historic flushing of American ideals (recorded September 28, 2006):

Gallegly has voted with Republican Party: 93.4 percent of 1141 votes. Given the serious, serious situation our nation faces today, it appears it is time for Mr. Gallegly to go.

Republicans still on the House Judiciary Committee that Voted to Impeach Clinton for Oral Sex:

Call to impeach Dick Cheney now. Let’s start there.

Petition to Impeach Dick Cheney Gains Momentum – Keep It Going!

From Florida Representative Robert Wexler’s efforts to Impeach Dick Cheney, originally proposed by Dennis Kucinich:

“This week, the Miami Herald printed an article on our efforts that was syndicated in papers across the country, including the Detroit Free Press, Philadelphia Inquirer, Fort Worth Telegram, Contra Costa Times, Sacramento Bee, Houston Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, NC News & Observer, and others. (Click HERE to read the article.)

In addition, CBS4 in Miami became the first station we know of to run a television segment about the call for hearings. Video of that can be found HERE.)

Perhaps most importantly, just this morning the Philadelphia Inquirer courageously ran the full editorial I drafted along with my fellow Judiciary Committee members Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Rep. Tammy Baldwin (R-WI). (View it HERE .) Congratulations to the Inquirer for their willingness to publish a viewpoint that is so widely held by Americans – yet one that other leading national newspapers refused to publish.”

Thank you Miami Herald, Detroit Free Press, Philadelphia Inquirer, Fort Worth Telegram, Contra Costa Times, Sacramento Bee, Houston Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, NC News, and Observer, and others for printing the real news!

– Please continue to support this important effort. Encourage all of your family and friends to Sign The Petition To Impeach Dick Cheney.

– Please contact your local representatives and ask them to support this important effort. For the 24th District in California, we are represented by Elton Gallegly. Please let him know that Ventura County wants accountability and we support candidates that act to preserve the principles of our Constitution.

Ventura County Elections – Gallegly

Our elected Representative, Elton Gallegly, sits on the House Judiciary Committee. That is also where the H Res 333/799, the resolution to initiate impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney sits.

As his office stated in a form letter in response to my request to know the current status of H Res 333/799, Mr. Gallegly is a senior member of that committee.

The form letter indicated that “I (Mr. Gallegly) will keep your comments in mind if I have the opportunity to vote on this matter”. Although Representative Wexler (Fl), who also sits on the Judiciary Committee, is gathering signatures to push for impeachment hearing for Cheney, Mr. Gallegly’s letter suggests he is unaware of this fact. I find that hard to believe. All of the nation’s mainstream media sources are “blacking out” the current push for hearings. It is imperative we show them that we feel strongly about liberty and accountability in this nation.

For those interested in upholding the Constitution and holding our elected officials accountable, there are two important things to do here:

– Sign Wexler’s petition As of today, there are nearly 140,000 signatures. Rep. Wexler is hoping to present 1/4 million signatures when he presents this petition to the Judiciary Committee in January.

– In Ventura County, California? Write to Elton Gallegly to urge him to vote in support of impeachment hearings as Ventura County wants accountability in government. You can address your concerns to Mr. Gallegly here:

What current Presidential Candidates support the notion that the President and Vice President must follow the Constitution?

Elton Gallegly – Why Are You Silent Now?

This weekend I decided to turn my attention locally. Just what are the local representatives saying about the Cheney/Bush administration and how are they voting?

Our local representative is Elton Gallegly, California District 24, and a Republican. In many hours of searching on the internet, it is difficult to find any stance of substance that he has presented in Washington. He appears as a good ‘ole boy Republican.

In terms of his response to the Cheney/Bush administration, he appears as a yes man. How disappointing. With even Republican approval of this administration down significantly, and many Republican candidates trying to distance themselves from the White House. Gallegly goes along with Cheney/Bush in step.

An interesting tidbit of information that is significant in beginning investigation of Mr. Gallegly must start with his ridiculous support of impeachment hearing against previous President Bill Clinton during his administration.

Elton Gallegly was one of the 37 members of the House Judiciary Committee who decided President Bill Clinton’s actions were impeachable with respect to the Lewinsky matter.

Just what is Mr. Gallegly doing now while the Cheney/Bush administration shreds the Constitution, washes away our rights as American citizens, continually lies about the Iraq war, personally profits from the war machine, and pardons officials that cover for their lying?

He supports them!

Certainly the excesses of the current administration warrants the attention of our elected officials more critically than involving the nation in the personal affairs of a family. Does it not Mr. Gallegly?

Elton Gallegly has consistently voted for the Iraq War, to fund it, and has not demanded an exit date.
Elton Gallegly is a high school graduate, attended Los Angeles State College for one year, and has worked as a real estate broker. He was mayor of Simi Valley for 6 years before being elected as a representative in 1987 as a Republican. He has served as a representative since that time.

In October 2006, the Sunlight Foundation, a Washington-based non-profit organization which advocates better transparency in government, reported that Gallegly’s campaign committee paid his wife $41,792 to serve as the campaign manager during 2005-2006.Project Vote-Smart.org has repeatedly asked Mr. Gallegly to complete the National Political Awareness Test, he has refused to respond per the Vote Smart website. The National Political Awareness Test is important as it helps voters understand where candidates and elected officials stand with respect to about 20 issues of interest to American voters.

Interestingly, Mr. Gallegly has consistently voted for Right To Life issues, however he fails to support Children’s Health Care, children born to immigrants, or educational issues that would support real education for children (No Child Left Behind has been under funded and focuses on testing rather than education), he has voted against teachers consistently. If anyone has data with respect to who cleans his house or cuts his lawn, or even if he eats strawberrys grown in Ventura County, please send that along.

A review of Mr. Gallegly’s voting record can be found here. If this representative can not represent American citizens’ rights and will only cover for an administration that has lead us into a quagmire of war (to quote Dick Cheney) and spending for no other reason than profit, it looks like it is time for Mr. Gallegly to retire.

In a response letter from Mr. Gallegly’s office, he states that there was a resolution by Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich to Impeach Dick Cheney, it has been sent to the Judiciary Committee. Mr. Gallegly stated that he is a “senior member”. Well as “senior member”, what has he done. Has Mr. Gallegly read the constitution or does he just blindly approve anything the White House spews out?

In the 24th District, we need responsible representatives. Please sign the petition to Impeach Dick Cheney. Send a strong message to the Judiciary Committee that the American People insist on living by the United State Constitution and will hold elected representatives accountable.
